GRAFTON/PARK RIVER IS YOUR 2002 STATE CHAMPIONS WITH A DOMINATING PERFORMANCE OVER G.F. CENTRAL

Sports experts will tell you that beating a team three times is tough to do?  Well, the G.F. Central Knights had won four straight times over the Spoilers this season alone.  Of Grafton/P.R. 6-Losses this season, 5 of the losses were against one team---G.F. Central.  Everyone coming into the new arena to a record crowd of 9,100 fans felt the game would be tight which is was until Period #2!  The Spoilers came out on a mission and cruised from a tight 1-1 game to a 6-2 win to capture the 2002 State Championship.  Their last state title came in 1991 but they had been in the state title game in 1993, 1995, 1996 & 2000 only to take away the 2nd place trophy.   G.F. Central was looking to add to their many state titles but had not won one since 1995 and had been in the title game in 1997 and now 2002 to take the runner-up banner.  The line of Drew Sando, Brent Spooner and Todd Kalbrener were dynomite on the ice and the chemistry really showed.  Central, who are still fairly young, should be a strong contender for the next years state title.  Both Grafton/Park River and Fargo North are losing many players and talented players to graduation.  G.F. Red River and Fargo South should be steady again.  Central will be back next year and this taste of being so close to the title will be motivation for these returning players.  For 2002, we have to give our hearty congratulations to the Grafton/Park River Spoilers players, coaches, cheerleaders, administration and the fan support which is always great during the state tournament.  This title was hard fought and well deserved by a talented group of fine athletes with a common goal.

G.F. RED RIVER REBOUNDS AFTER TOUGH EMOTIONAL LOSS TO CENTRAL TO TAKE 3RD PLACE OVER BISMARCK CENTURY 5-0

FARGO NORTH TAKES CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP 4-2 OVER A GRITTY HAZEN/BEULAH NORTHSTAR TEAM.

G.F. CENTRAL WAITED FOR 44:57 TO FINALLY SCORE AND SEND AN APPARENT RED RIVER TEAM BOUND FOR A 3RD STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TO 3RD PLACE GAME WITH A 2-1 OVERTIME WIN.

GRAFTON/P.R. PUTS CENTURY PARTY TO REST EARLY WITH 4 GOAL 1ST PERIOD ENROUTE TO A 7-1 VICTORY.

HAZEN/BEULAH GAINS TWO FIRSTS AT STATE TODAY!  THEY PICKED UP THEIR FIRST EVER WIN AT A HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY STATE TOURNAMENT AND ALSO PICKED UP THEIR FIRST EVER WIN OVER BISMARCK HIGH AS THEY OUST THE DEMONS 4-2 IN CONSOLATION PLAY.

FARGO NORTH COMES FROM BEHIND 1-0 AFTER TWO PERIODS, TO TAKE A 2-1 VICTORY OVER MINOT TO ADVANCE TO THE CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP.

BISMARCK CENTURY SHOCKS THE HOCKEY WORLD WITH UPSET WIN.

The New England Patriots and now the Bismarck Century Patriots?  See any simalarities?  Century, behind goalie Jon Weisgerber's 21 saves, shocked the hockey world at the Ralph Engelstad Arena late Thursday Night as they skated to a 1-0 win in Double Overtime.  The loss was just the 3rd for the Spartans and the second loss to a North Dakota team.  Century will now break the jinx of an all-east semi-final in the t.v. round and it came from a #4 Seed out of the West.  The Patriots now must try beat the Spoilers to advance to the state title game on Saturday.

G.F. RED RIVER DOWNS BISMARCK HIGH 2-1 TO SET-UP CROSS-TOWN RIVAL MATCH-UP IN TONIGHTS SEMI-FINALS

G.F. CENTRAL JUMPS OUT TO 3-0 LEAD AND HAS TO HANG ON FOR DEAR LIFE IN A 3-2 WIN OVER HAZEN/BEUALH.

GRAFTON/PARK RIVER SHUTS OUT MINOT 2-0 TO MOVE INTO THE STATE SEMI-FINALS

MR. HOCKEY ANNOUNCED
