From learning the fundamentals (how to tie ice skates) to advanced lessons in dance, freestyle or moves, Park District youth ice skating lessons challenge kids to smooth moves on the ice. Most skaters participate in at least one of the ice shows throughout the year to showcase their progress and prowess on the ice.

Pre-school Skating – (daytime instruction)

Instructor will work with pre-school skaters (individuals or small groups) during Tuesday AM or PM time slots. Skaters are asked to sign-up for one time slot only. Practice times are open to all skaters.

Group Lessons

The Learn To Skate USA basic skills lessons for Pre-School (skaters must be 4 years old) through Adult. Skaters receive a ½ hour lesson per week with a 15-min practice time. Skaters can use the public skating sessions at the Blue Line Club. The “Skate With Us” badge, handed out at the first lesson, is needed for admission to public skating.

Pre-registration will be accepted until October 17, 2017. Group assignments will be available online in late October. After October 17, 2017, no registrations will be accepted, until the November 2, 2017 registration at Blue Line Club Arena from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. A $10.00 per person late charge will be added to the registration fee starting November 3, 2017. Skating helmets are strongly suggested for beginner skaters.

Open to skaters who are working towards joining the Advanced Class or Border Blades Figure Skating Club. Skaters must have completed Basic 3 to be eligible.

Advanced Group Lessons

Open to skaters working toward Moves-in-the-Field, Freestyle, and Dance. Skaters

Park District Synchronized Skating

Synchronized Skating Class allows skaters to practice & perform together, while synchronizing movements. Skaters must have completed Basic 5 to be eligible. Enrollment in the Advanced Group Lessons is highly recommended.

Hockey, Power & Skills

Learn To Skate USA based program teaches hockey players who are new to the sport the fundamentals of skating. This class focuses on teaching players skating skills, no hockey sticks will be used during this class. (Limit 30 skaters)

Therapeutic Skating

Learn To Skate USA based program is designed to help physically and developmentally challenged youth and adults learn how to skate. The program encourages skaters to continue in the sport of skating for physical recreation and activity while taking limitations into consideration. (Limit 15 skaters)

Theater on Ice

Theater on Ice brings the joy of performing plays and musicals to the ice. Skaters will learn how to express emotions and feelings through their skating skills and choreography. All ages are welcome and skaters must be able to skate across the ice unassisted to participate in class. Enrollment in group lessons is strongly encouraged. (Limit 30 skaters)

Border Blades Private Skating Club

Border Blades Figure Skating Club is affiliated with United States Figure Skating (USFS). Membership in the club enables youth skaters to compete in skating competitions and test according to USFS rules. Any level of skater may join.
